Heat Resistance
Protect wood surfaces from heat-related damage like hot cookware or mugs with heat-resistant finishes, ensuring durability.
- The raw wooden surface to be coated should be clean, dry, free from moisture, dampness and other contamination.
- For hardwood, sand the surface using sandpaper #80, followed by sandpapers #120, #150, #180 and #220.
- For veneer, start with sandpaper #220.
- Always sand in the direction of the wood grain.
- Mix the base thoroughly prior to mixing with the hardener.
- Avoid applying in direct sunlight or when the humidity is very high.
- Apply 2 to 3 coats of WoodCoat High Solids Sealer with an interval of 8 hours between subsequent coats. Sanding should be done prior to the application of each coat.
- Sandpaper #220 can be used for the first coat and sandpaper #400 can be used for the second and third coats.
- The number of coats of sealer required varies from 2 to 3 depending on the absorption of wood. Apply 2 coats of WoodCoat Exterior Glossy Clear or WoodCoat Exterior Silky Matt Clear or WoodCoat Exterior Total Matt Clear depending on the requirement. Sand the first coat with sandpaper #600, after 8 hours of drying.
- MRF WoodStains Exterior shades can be used to enhance the colour of the wood grain. The available shades can be used over either the first coat or the second coat of sealer. Sanding after application of Wood Stains is not recommended.
- For exterior applications, use Wood Stains Exterior shades only.

About WoodCoat Exterior
WoodCoat Exterior is MRF Paints’ two-pack, solvent-based polyurethane clear finish for exterior wood. It is 100% PU with an anti-ageing formula, and protects outdoor wood against sun, rain, stains, scratches and moisture while keeping the natural grain visible.
It is available in glossy, silky matt and total matt clear finishes.

FAQs
How do I prepare wood before applying WoodCoat Exterior?
The wood must be clean, dry and free from moisture. For hardwood, sand with sandpaper #80, then #120, #150, #180 and #220; for veneer, start with #220. Always sand along the grain.
Do I need a sealer first?
Yes. Apply 2-3 coats of WoodCoat High Solids Sealer, 8 hours apart, sanding before each coat (#220 for the first, #400 for the second and third).
Which finish should I choose: glossy, silky matt or total matt?
It is a matter of look: glossy gives a rich shine, silky matt a soft sheen, and total matt a natural, low-sheen finish. All three are clear and show the wood grain.
Is WoodCoat Exterior suitable for interior wood?
