About MetalCoat

MetalCoat is MRF Paints’ luxury aliphatic two-pack polyurethane (PU) topcoat for metal, wood and other surfaces, indoors and outdoors. It gives a rich, glossy finish and protects against corrosion for up to 8 years, as well as against UV, moisture, scratches and stains, which is why it is a popular choice for gates, grills, railings and metal doors.

It comes in 54 exclusive factory shades, with more than 3,000 further shades tinted from MC+ bases.

Can I use MetalCoat on an iron gate or grill?

Yes. MetalCoat is made for metal surfaces indoors and outdoors and protects against corrosion for up to 8 years. On a rusted gate, sand off loose rust and apply one coat of Epidec RTC (Rust Tolerant Coat) Primer first. See our guide to main gate colour combinations for shade ideas.

How much area does one litre of MetalCoat cover?

About 80-85 sq ft per litre per coat. The quantity you need depends on the area of the gate or surface, so measure both sides and multiply by the number of coats.

Is MetalCoat a single-pack or two-pack paint?

It is a two-pack aliphatic polyurethane. Mix the base thoroughly, then add the hardener at 4:1 for opaque glossy and metallic shades or 6:1 for opaque matt shades, and use the mixture within its 4-hour pot life.

How long should I wait between coats?

8 hours for drying and recoating. Avoid applying in direct sunlight or when humidity is very high.

Can MetalCoat be applied with a brush?

MRF highly recommends spray painting to get the best, smoothest finish.

How is MetalCoat different from enamel paint?

Enamel usually means synthetic enamel, a lower-grade paint that typically lasts up to 3-4 years. MetalCoat is an aliphatic two-pack PU that protects against corrosion for up to 8 years.
