- PLASTER: New masonry surfaces must be allowed to cure completely. It is recommended to allow 28 days as the curing time for new masonry surfaces. The roof must have a positive slope/drainage system to avoid water ponding at places.
- CLEANING: Surface should be free from any loose paint, dust, or grease. Remove all existing bitumen coatings completely. It is recommended to use intense wire brushing, a high-speed water jet, and a vacuum cleaner for thorough cleaning of the surface to avoid “peeling off” problems.
- REPAIRING: The substrate must be checked for its soundness using a small hammer. All cracks at corner joints, channels, and parapets should be properly treated.
- FILLING FOR CRACKS: For filling cracks of up to 10mm use a suitable crack filler. Bigger cracks, damaged portions, and hollow areas must be repaired with polymer-modified cement mortars.
Vertical Surface
- Apply the first self-priming coat of Aquafresh Dampgarde by diluting with 33% water.
- Apply a coat of Aquafresh Dampgarde without any dilution.
- Apply 2 coats of Aquafresh/Altura top coat products as per the recommended dilution.
Horizontal Surface
- Apply the first self-priming coat of Aquafresh Dampgarde by diluting with 33% water.
- Apply the first coat of Aquafresh Dampgarde without any dilution.
- Apply the second coat of Aquafresh Dampgarde without any dilution in a perpendicular direction to the first coat.
Roller or Brush or Conventional Spray, Nozzle Orifice: 0.059 inches, Pressure: 35 – 45 psi.

About AquaFresh DampGarde
AquaFresh DampGarde is MRF Paints’ single-pack, fibre-reinforced waterproofing system for terraces and a waterproofing primer for exterior walls. It forms a stretchable, high-opacity film that bridges cracks up to 0.5 mm, and in white it reduces surface heat by up to 10 degrees C. It is GreenPro certified.
It comes in White, Grey and Terracotta.

How do I apply DampGarde on a terrace?
Apply a first self-priming coat diluted with 33% water, then a coat without dilution, then a second undiluted coat in the direction perpendicular to the first.
How do I use DampGarde on an exterior wall?
Apply a self-priming coat diluted with 33% water, then one undiluted coat, and finish with 2 coats of an AquaFresh or Altura exterior topcoat.
How much DampGarde do I need?
About 10-13 sq ft per litre for the full 3-coat system on a terrace, and 23-25 sq ft per litre for 2 coats on a vertical wall, according to the MRF data sheet.
How should I prepare the terrace?
New masonry should cure for 28 days. The roof must slope or drain so water does not pond. Remove loose paint, dust, grease and all old bitumen coatings, check the surface is sound, fill cracks up to 10 mm with a suitable crack filler, and repair larger cracks with polymer-modified cement mortar.
Does DampGarde reduce heat?
